A September update and inaugural blog post on a new website

Oh wow, it’s September already. Time for my yearly tear down of my existing website and full rebranding. I put this website together today, made a new logo, the whole 9 yards. Someday I’ll be satisfied with it, I’m sure; I’m still learning and growing for now as I try and figure out how to run a business.

And speaking of that business, it’s going to be going through some changes this year. It’s already been underway but I’ve begun transitioning into digital art as well as oil painting for a few different reasons. It’s practical with less material and space cost, it’s quick, it’s versatile, etc. It also lets me experiment more than I feel comfortable with traditional media. Oil paints expensive and so is everything else. This isn’t a full switch; I’ll still be working with oils and other traditional media. I am now splitting my time and efforts according to demand and space for stuff to dry in my house.

The social media grind kind of took a lot of the fun out of art for me. Not to say that I haven’t been making art, but I haven’t been doing much on social media. My Instagram has become a ghost town of low view reels and even lower view photos. I’m sure if you follow any artists on there, you’ve heard a lot about that though so I’ll spare you here. The point is that I’m still here making art, but I’m making it for people instead of an algorithm now.

A last little announcement is really more of a plan. I’m going to be looking into art shows to possibly attend and sell art at. I’ll probably take a look at Colorado and California specifically since that’s where I live and where I’m from respectively but if you have any recommendations, I’d love to hear them!

Anyways, I think that’s all for this little update. Thanks for reading and stay safe.

Ominously yours,

Jon
