October 2023 and it’s getting cold but only kind of

I love the Fall season but it’s never enough. I live in Colorado currently and you’d think it would be getting chilly and the leaves are falling, etc, etc. Instead, it’s the weird between where the mornings are cold so it’s hard to get out of bed but at least its also very hot in the middle of the day. But at least the leaves are pretty and it’s getting darker sooner, a wins a win.

All in all though, I am excited for this last chunk of the year! It’s been a hard time to be an artist, especially when you’re early career. I’ve had a bit of a social media break and it’s been SO helpful. I keep thinking I should start the instagram grind again but no, I don’t think so actually. I can’t really find a time in the last year or so it’s been anything more than an additional job. I spent so much time looking through instagram and making art specifically for instagram and thinking about instagram and it’s just become way more important than it should be. It really just made me forget why I make art in the first place and instead, get obsessed with the numbers game of trying to get attention. Attention isn’t a bad thing, mind; you want to know that what you do is resonating with others.

Okay, time to get down to brass tacks: business updates. I am taking commissions but at this point if you haven’t already looked into it for the holidays, I can almost guarantee that it won’t be ready to ship by Christmas. It’s just kind of the nature of the beast with oil painting. I use as many things as I can think of to speed drying but ultimately it is still a medium that requires a lot of sitting after the work is done. That said, digital painting is on the table, since it won’t need to dry. See my commissions page for more info on that.

The Shop is also going to be receiving a small update by Friday. I’ll be putting up some new prints as well as some smaller originals at a big ol’ discount.

Alright, I think that’s it. Have a nice day, drink some water (I should also drink some water), and be good. Or don’t, what am I? Your mother?

Sincerely,

Jon
